Description
I grew up in a small coastal village in Corsain in the Dragonsong Dominion. The village relied heavily on the sea, we fished to eat, to trade, fishing was our livelihood. So although the main deity most people worshipped was Rofirein, my village also paid homage to Shindaleria, for the bounty she provides us with every day through the ocean. It was a peaceful life, I was the eldest of 5 children, 3 brothers and 1 sister, so I spent just as much time taking care of them as I did fishing. It was a quiet, peaceful life, and not much ever went on in the village, but that suited me just fine. Theres nothing I loved more than being out at sea, whether I was fishing or not. Looking back on it now, I guess I was more devoted to Shindaleria than the average person in the village. There was just something about her teachings that have always struck a chord in me, seemed right and like they make perfect sense. But as I said, the main focus of worship was Rofirein, so the rest of the village was not hard to sway away from Shindaleria. All it took was a particularly bad storm, one that demolished most of the boats we use to fish with, as well as injuring and even killing some of the villagers, my sister included. The day after the storm cleared, a worshipper of Mist who had been in town for a few days said that the storm had been caused by Mist because we did not pay her enough homage. Of course, that is ridiculous, and I met this statement with derision, but the rest of the village was pretty much taken in. I tried to talk to them, why would this storm be Mists doing, and why here and not down the coast, but I was brushed aside. Even my parents refused to listen to me. That stung the worst, I understand that they were grieving the death of my sister, but so was I. When it was clear that the rest of the village was perfectly content to turn their backs on Shindaleria, I packed my things and left in the middle of the night. I couldnt bear the thought of having to say goodbye to the rest of my siblings in person, which is why I left them a note, I was too afraid I would lose my resolve to leave if I talked to them about it. As I left the only home Ive ever known it was both liberating and sorrowful, but I had the ocean to look forward to, I would travel wherever the currents took me, just as in Shindalerias teachings, albeit on top of the waves rather than underneath them. Ive been wandering ever since, working where I can to pay for passage on the next ship, recently Ive found myself in Mistone, the people seem friendly enough, wonder what there is to see in this new land.
