History: Shaetarien was born at the first light of dawn and the first sight she beheld was the vast beauty of the sea. The youngest in a family of Sea Elves, she learned the ways of the ocean quickly and soon they became second nature to her. He mother taught her how to swim and ride the waves, her father taught her how to fish and all manner of things about the creatures of the sea, and her older brother taught her to find all the bountiful treasures the ocean provided in the way of sea gems, pearls, coral, and beautiful shells. She grew up, and grew more beautiful as time passed, with her mother's eyes and graceful curves, and her father's copper-red hair.

They lived happily enough in their cove until Shaetarien's 150th year. She was out gathering coral and oysters from one of the reefs and the feeling came suddenly upon her that all was not right with her family. Racing back to the cove, she found the burning wreckage of their home and the mutilated bodies of her parents and brother. She wept without shame over their bodies until there were no tears left and then set to work, binding each of them in sea kelp and weighting them with rocks. Once they were shrouded, Shaetarien drug them out to sea, one at a time, to rest forever in the embrace of the ocean's depths. After her task was finished, she found a sharp piece of whale bone and carved a starlike shape into her forehead, a symbol of her family and her grief at the loss of them. Then she lay down on the shore and curled up, willing herself to die.

It was there that an old fisherman found her. Being a compassionate man, and having had a daughter once, he took her back to his fishing boat and brought her back to sanity through his gentle care. When she was well enough, he taught her how to use a net and a pole to fish, taught her how to sail, and most importantly he taught her how to fight. She learned to fight with skill using a rapier, daggers, and even a spear. In combination with her mage skills she learned from her father and mother was it a great help for the fisherman. While They caught many different kinds of fish and she even brought in a large swordfish which sold well at market when they went ashore to sell their catch. The old fisherman thanked Ulmo for the luck Shaetarien brought him.

After a few years aboard the fisherman's boat, the elf maiden longed to meet out vengence for what had been done to her family. So each time they came into a port she listened silently to the talk of the sea-rats and pirates until she learned by whose hand her family had come to their deaths. After another few months, she bid the old fisherman farewell and wished him Ulmo's blessings. She set ashore with provisions enough to get her through if she needed it, and weapons she had purchased with some of the money she'd earned from her large catches of swordfish, tuna, and even shark. Among the other things she took with her was her older brother's shoulder plate armor and bracers, which the pirates had managed not to find, along with her stash of pearls in an assortment of colors, some coral, and a few sea gems. It wasn't long before she found the lair of the pirates and snuck inside. She murdered them in their sleep, murdered them because they had murdered her family, and then slipped back out into the night. Shatarien fled then, knowing that she would not be able to return to the sea for many years. There would be men who would want to avenge the death of their pirate friends, and the last thing she wanted was to fall into their hands.

So she headed inland, wandering for many years because no where felt like a place she could settle...a place she could consider home. She followed rivers, so she could swim when she missed the feel of the water. Always carrying within her a longing for the sea, she continued inland, not knowing where she was going, only that she could not yet go back...not until long memories had faded and she would no longer be remembered.
